Disbursement Charges in Alberta

The information below informs of our disbursements that we charge to our clients for each file. They are as follows:

  1. Postage and Handling, stationary $10.00 (each file)
  2. Filing of Civil Claim at the Court House for claims up to $7,500.00, $100.00 (RECOVERABLE)
  3. Filing of Civil Claim at the Court House for claims over $7,500.00, $200.00 (RECOVERABLE)
  4. Corporation Search $15.00 for the first search and $7.50 for subsequent searches on same file.
  5. Motor Vehicle Search (demographic search) $15.00 for the first search and $7.50 for subsequent searches on same file.
  6. Personal Property Search $15.00 for the first search and $7.50 for subsequent searches on same file.

(For the above three searches, the costs will vary for each file because it depends how many searches we have to do in order to find the Defendant’s correct legal name and address and whether or not it is a Corporation or an individual.)

  1. Cost for Court Runner: $10.00 (this is each time something has to be filed at the Court House)
  2. Cost for registered mail: $8.21 & 9.17 (larger size) (each time the claim needs to be sent out) (RECOVERABLE)
  3. Personal Service: Variable dependent on individual circumstance: up to $150.00 recoverable through the court.
  4. Affidavit of Service, $10.00 (Court Running and photocopies at 0.20 cents per page)
  5. Filing of Default Judgment: $10.00 (for Court Running, and photocopies at 0.20 cents per page)
  6. Filing of Writ of Enforcement: $10.00 (Court Running and photocopies at 0.20 cents per page)
  7. Registering Judgment at the Personal Property Registry: $60.00 (For 2 years)

The next searches are done when we are trying to enforce your judgment to see what kind of assets the debtor has in their possession:

  1. Motor Vehicle Search (searching for assets) $15.00 (each)
  2. Land Title Searches (searching for assets) $12.00 (each)
  3. Personal Property Search $15.00 (each)
  4. Garnishee Summons $186.00, plus GST. Costs of $425.00 are RECOVERABLE for first filed Garnishee Summons
